An access log is a text file containing an extensive list of all the files accessed by your website visitors. All of the files that were requested in one way or another will be included, so if you have a PHP script application and a visitor opens just the home page, for instance, you might find a lot of files inside the log. It is because there are components on the home page that are embedded - parts of other Internet pages, graphics, and so on. All of these files will be listed within the access log, so you're able to get a complete picture of the way your site functions. The data is in plain text format, so the logs are often termed "raw data" too. An access log shows the name of each requested file, the path to it, the date it was accessed, as well as the user’s IP address, web browser and Operating System. Additional information, including the referrer site, is usually provided too. A log file can be processed by various desktop apps for statistical purposes as an addition to the web statistics supplied by your website hosting server.

Access Log Manager in Shared Hosting

Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel has a section dedicated to various logs and the access logs are one of them. As soon as you sign in to your shared hosting account and visit this section, you will find a list of all the domains and subdomains that you have. All it takes to enable the generation of access logs is to click on a button which will be available next to every single domain/subdomain. If the option is active, you shall see a download link together with the file size so far, so you will be able to save the file to your PC and view it or process it with some application. Enabling or disabling the logs takes effect immediately, so if you no longer require one, you'll be able to stop it with just a mouse click from the exact same section of the Control Panel. You'll still be able to access the already generated content by simply clicking on the Download link.

Access Log Manager in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Our state-of-the-art website hosting platform will create access logs for every site hosted within a semi-dedicated server account, provided that this function is activated. All domains and subdomains that you have will be listed within the Access/Error Logs section of the Hepsia CP, which we provide with all of the accounts, so if you would like our system to start generating logs for any of them, you should simply click on the compact button on the right side of the respective domain/subdomain and change the default Off option to On. You can deactivate this feature whenever you want by following the very same steps. You'll find a Download link for each log in the exact same section of the Control Panel, so you could save the content produced by our system in .txt format with only a click. An existing log file could be downloaded even after the feature has been deactivated, so you'll still be able to look at the data that's already been generated.
