If you wish to forward a domain that you have to another domain or subdomain, the best way to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain being redirected loses all its records (A, MX, and so forth) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain address it's redirected to. By doing this, if you use a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain and not only will it be forwarded to the website that you have created, but it'll also be displayed in the browser address bar at all times. Other possible uses of a CNAME record are to direct all of the targeted traffic from different subdomains to their main Internet domain, or to use the webmail service of your hosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by setting up a CNAME record for a subdomain simply because this type of a record created for the main domain name renders it impossible to use email addresses.

CNAME Records in Shared Hosting

Setting up a CNAME record using our Linux shared hosting is quite easy. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel includes a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domains, so you can create a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted inside your account in just a few basic steps. You will find a video tutorial inside the same section in which you can see the process first-hand. This feature offers you various opportunities - if you create a company site on our end, for example, the workers can use their emails with the company domain name, not with the address of our mail server. If you wish to set up an Internet site through a different company which offers online web design services, you can easily forward a domain address hosted here and use it for the site. Last, but not least, if you have a web-based store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you are able to create a CNAME record for the www subdomain and point it to the main domain name, so all your customers are going to be forwarded to a secure URL.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Managing DNS records usually seems a difficult task to people with less experience, but the Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with each and every Linux semi-dedicated hosting which we provide, is quite easy to use. If you wish to create a CNAME record for any purpose, all that you need to do will be to choose the domain address or subdomain you need, pick the type of record, which will be CNAME in this case, then enter the value i.e. the domain name or subdomain you are forwarding to. The procedure is quite simple and you can create the record in the DNS Records section of the CP. Within the hour the new record will be fully active and within a few hours it'll propagate around the globe. If you're not sure what you should do, we have prepared an in depth help article and a short video tutorial concerning how to go about creating a CNAME record and they are both situated in that very same section of Hepsia. Of course, you can also get in touch with us for assistance anytime.
