Whois Privacy Protection, sometimes also referred to as WHOIS or Whois Privacy Protection, is a service that conceals the genuine contact details of domain registrants on WHOIS lookup web sites. Without protection, the personal name, address and email of any domain registrant will be openly available. Providing false details during the domain name registration procedure or changing the real details later will simply not work, as doing such a thing may result in the registrant losing his/her ownership rights. The policies adopted by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, demand that the WHOIS details must be valid and accurate all the time. The Whois Privacy Protection service was introduced by domain name registrars as a response to the increasing concerns about potential identity theft. If the protection service is enabled, the registrar company’s contact information will be displayed instead of the client’s upon a WHOIS check. Most domains support the Whois Privacy Protection service, although there are some country-code extensions that don’t.

Whois Privacy Protection in Shared Hosting

If you order a shared hosting package from our company, you’ll be able to enable Whois Privacy Protection for any of your domains in case their extensions support this option. You can register/transfer a domain and enable Whois Privacy Protection during the signup process or you can enable the service for any of your domain names at any moment later via the Hepsia Control Panel. The process is exceptionally easy – after you sign in, you’ll need to go to the Registered Domains section where you’ll find a list of all the domain names that you’ve registered through us. For each one of them you’ll notice an “Whois Privacy Protection” icon, which will let you know if the service is active or not. By clicking on it, you can either Whois Privacy Protect the domain, or you can turn off the service if it is currently active.

Whois Privacy Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Ordering Whois Privacy Protection for any domain name is very easy in case you’ve got a semi-dedicated server. As long as the domain name is registered with us, it will be displayed in the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel that is included with each semi-dedicated server package. In case a given generic or country-specific domain is Whois Privacy Protection-eligible, you will notice a small button to the right of that domain. To activate the Whois Privacy Protection service, you’ll need to click on it. In the same way, you can also renew or disable the service. You can enable Whois Privacy Protection for a domain name during the account activation process as well, but since the Whois Privacy Protection service is optional, we will give you the chance to add it to any of your domains at a later time if you change your mind and decide to hide your personal details from the general public after you’ve already ordered the account.
